It’s worth more than the $5.99 I paid for it

I just discovered a interesting site called leapfish. I’m not sure if it gives a accurate appraisal of your domains worth or not. I was always under the impression that your domain is only worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it. Anyways, going on over to Leapfish to see what your domains worth.

Place free calls within the US or Canada

skypecalls.png

Wow!! Skype just announced that they’re letting anyone make Free calls (Skype-Out) to any land-line or mobile number within the US or Canada. Nice move. I’ve had a “Skype-in” number for a few months now but have not used their “Skype-out” service. I just tried it and it works great. You can read more about it here.

Google announces a cool new toy

Looks like Google released some new features yesterday. The announced the release of Google Co-op, Google Desktop 4 and Google Trends. You read all about them at the Google Blog. The one that I’m excited about is Google Trends, which will be a must have tool for search marketing professionals. I was going to put a screen capture of Trends with this post but after testing it out, I got this nice error.

Ebay’s “it” campaign, been done before

Remember back around Christmas time when Ebay had that “ it” campaign? If you don’t remember you can check “it” out here.

Yesterday, I was going through a box of old stuff that I had collected over the years from my travels and Circus days. Anyway, I came across a Subway map of Toronto and noticed a ad on there for the Yellow Pages. The funny thing was that they were using the “it” slogan as well, and the map was from around 1992. The “it” was even trademarked. I guess “it” is hard to come up with an original idea these days. Even if you’re a billion dollar company.

The Facebook adds 1,000 companies

Now, if you work for 1 of the 1,000 companies on this list. You can join the millions of college and High School kids on The Facebook. I haven’t been a FaceBook user (nor will I), but I hear a lot of good things about it. One of the things that I thought was cool about the FaceBook was it’s exclusivity to College kids. Then they opened up to High Schools and now companies. I hope it works out for them but I think the appeal will be lost once it’s not as exclusive as it once was. Either way, below is their official press release.

Palo Alto, CA – May 3, 2006 – Facebook, the social directory that enables people to share information, announced today that it now supports over 1,000 work networks. Alumni are now able to register for Facebook with authenticated “.com” or “.org” email addresses. College and high school students can continue to register for the site using their “.edu” email addresses to authenticate their identity and affiliation with their school.

“The number one request we receive from people is to have the ability to invite friends outside their college network,” said Mark Zuckerberg, Founder and CEO. “We’re committed to growing with our alumni and increasing the site’s utility and availability to them as they leave college.”

One-third of college students on Facebook will have graduated and headed into the workforce by the completion of the 2006 academic year. Forty-five percent of Facebook’s college alumni currently come back to the site every day. Facebook’s work networks will allow them to connect with the people around them. Alumni can join their work network from their existing accounts and then invite co-workers to join. In addition, anyone from a supported company can register at www.facebook.com.

“Facebook’s expansion into the workplace is a natural progression for this innovative social directory,” said Howard Draft, CEO and Founder, Draft Worldwide. “Having proven its utility in the hard-to-reach high school and college markets, the move makes terrific sense. At Draft, we are looking forward to the exciting new marketing opportunities that this will create for our clients.”

Facebook’s work networks have the same privacy controls that have made the site a trusted environment for sharing information. People share information only with others in their networks and with confirmed friends. Facebook encourages accountability by authenticating people into defined networks using valid email addresses from supported schools or companies. Facebook gives people complete control over the information they share and with whom they choose to share it through the site’s detailed privacy settings.

CBS Launches Innertube Streaming Video Service

innertube.jpg

I reported last week that ABC has started streaming some of their programing. Now, it looks like CBS has also joined in on the fun. I just watched a cool Pearl Jam mini-concert from a recent David Letterman show. Great idea for content. This is normally something that you wouldn’t be able to see, unless you were there, live. CBS also plans to stream content from CBS owned networks such as Paramount Network Television, King World, and Showtime. They also plans to show episodes of series that didn’t quite make it on primetime (another great idea). I can also see them using this as a testing ground for new TV pilots. Check out the shows here.
